  16. This page includes general information about this radio list.
  17. You should only send the following pages on to anyone in the
  18. Middle East, since this page is not really useful for them.

  22. If the document between the two ``snip here'' lines is printed in
  23. an 8-point font it will fit onto an AT&T DesertFAX form, and in
  24. a 10-point font it fits in two standard pages (if you cut this
  25. into 3 pages then a 10-point font would fit onto DesertFAX,
  26. but then the schedules would be broken over two pages).   Many
  27. Unix systems have a program called enscript from Adobe that
  28. prints in different fonts (among many other things); see your
  29. local documentation for details.  Also, many laser printers
  30. normally print in a 10-point font.

  32. Getting the most current copy:
  33. ------------------------------
  34. I will update this as often as more schedule information comes
  35. in (this has slowed from a flood to a moderate trickle), and
  36. repost to appropriate USENET newsgroups as often as seems
  37. appropriate (probably every 2--4 weeks).  The most current copy
  38. of this is available via anonymous ftp from cs.arizona.edu, in
  39. file desert-shield-shortwave/sched.Z.  To access it from the
  40. internet, do the following (the '%' will be '$' or something
  41. else if you don't use csh (aka the C shell)):

  71. ^LFollowing is a listing of English shortwave and mediumwave (AM)
  72. programs that are likely to be receivable in Arabia by most types
  73. of shortwave radios (and normal radios, for AM --- 530--1600KHz).
  74. Reception can vary from day to day, so if one frequency is not
  75. coming in well try the others.   Aslso, signals travel best in the
  76. dark, so the best listening is when it is night for the entire
  77. path of the signal.  During the night signals in the
  78. 6000-9500 KHz range will come in best, and during the day those
  79. above 15000.  Finally, most shortwave broadcasts begin with a
  80. buletin of world news.

  92. schedules for:
  93.         - Radio Cairo
  94.         - Radio Moscow (impartial?; might have news contacts...)
  95. and any others with good news and other programs that beam strong
  96. signals to the Middle East.  So any of you folks in these countries,
  97. or any regular listeners, please help us out.

  99. All times below are UTC (which is basically GMT; Riyadh is UTC+3).
  100. All frequencies are KHz (so divide by 1000 to get MHz). Send this
  101. to anyone you know in Operation Desert Shield; chances are decent
  102. that it will help them.  Post it to bulliten boards that you
  103. frequent, too---maybe people there will send it to our troops.
  104. Please tell me frequencies aren't coming in and I'll drop them.
